July 14 - Bastille Day. A day to remember our soldiers.
On Thursday's Market day an absolute must is getting juice and waffles at Carolines Juice Stand. You'll find her mom always helping unless she is home with Caroline's new baby.
There is nothing like a new hat at the market on a very hot summer day. So many to choose from. Enjoy!
Les Nyonsais love to enjoy music and great food..at festival or Thursday Market.

Nyons - House Chateau - Fauvete

If you are looking for true Provencal living, the village of Nyons is certainly the place for you. I found this location after visiting our new friends, the Marshall's. When we toured the castle, Wayne told us about "Fauvette," a 3 level section of the castle that they rent.

The ancient street that this chateau is on is part of the medieval section of Nyons (vieux Nyons). Market days are on Thursday - and Sunday in the summer....festivals are endless ... the tour de France came through on 16 July 2006.

But not withstanding all the ambiance of the town and the Chateau itself, the Fauvette is an affordable rental on the grounds, and will accommodate up to 3 people comfortably. The Marshalls rent it for $600 a week and include the gatehouse for an additional $100. The Fauvette adjoins the Chateau's garden compound. (In fact, the Marshalls bought the Fauvette primarily for the garden. Having bought it, they then have designed and restored the gardens.

You enter Fauvette on ground level. The stairs are narrow (as expected in a Chateau). A turn of the century rope railing helps you up to the second floor where there is a small but functional kitchen with a gas stove and refrigerator. There is a little pantry directly beside the kitchen. Adjacent to that is a dining nook. This level also includes an antique bed for a single guest, no taller than 5' 7". This section of the house is furnished with antiques, a television with VCR and ... a good supply of movies.

Dining area and Extra Bed

Wander up to the 3rd floor for the comfort of the master bedroom with an additional day bed. Comfy, cozy and medieval - this room opens to the heavenly garden. The traditional antique bedroom has a large wall closet and a Provencal armoire with antique Persian rugs on the floor. The bedroom is steps away from the master bathroom. It is a very large room with an open, walk in shower on the same level.

Poetes Salon
And...then there is the breathtaking garden. Just 3 steps up and your are ready for your own private dining terrace and the use of the garden. The garden terrace is truly a paradise and the signature of this rental. I could live in the garden. The sunsets are magnificent. The flowers and greenery picture perfect. What better place to relax and simply enjoy the day.

Garden and View of Nyons

The tiny gate house accommodates one or perhaps two, if they are small and well acquainted! It is like a tiny little dollhouse with its own bathroom (shower, no tub) ... it’s perfect for young people. The beds are OK for the young. Two small twin beds can be put together to make up a larger bed, if you choose. Or they can remain separated.

Step out of the apartment and you can wander through the catacomb walkways to the remains of an ancient watchtower that overlooks all of Nyons and has a view to the hills with olive groves and vinyards.

The ancient street that this chateau is on is part of the medieval section of Nyons. Market days are on Thursday - and Sunday in the summer....festivals are endless ... the tour de France came through on 16 July 2006. The town is not short of really good restaurants. I went in search of "pain aux raisins" one morning and found 17 locations in town that made my favorite breakfast pastry. If keeping active is of interest... you can watch or play boules, head to the tennis courts...or just take the kids to the Aquapark for swimming. The tourist office will supply you with information on concerts, weekend events, or biking or hiking trails. The choices are endless. The weather is typically sunny....333 days of the year.
